Minister Colao met with the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager
The Minister for technological innovation and digital transition Vittorio Colao met today with Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice-President of the European Commission.
The Minister and the Vice-President highlighted the importance of advancing the dialogue on common European rules governing digital services (Digital Markets Act). At the center of the debate, also the importance of promoting international collaboration in technology areas.
The meeting was an opportunity to address the centrality of EU’s competition rules to promote digital transition. Minister Colao and Vice-President Vestager also discussed Italy’s investments and reforms financed under the EU Recovery and Resilience Facility. In particular, the Italian Government shared the timeline of the Piano Italia a 1 Giga, which will be soon notified to the European Commission as envisaged in the Recovery plan.
On the same day the seminar on “Competition policy and pro-competitive regulation in digital markets: converging agendas” took place. The event was organized by the University of Rome in collaboration with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition. The Minister and the Vice-President shared views on the next steps required to increase the competitiveness of Europe’s digital economy at the international level.
