As a G7 member participating in the G7 AI Network (GAIN), Italy supports the G7 GovAI Grand Challenge, an international initiative launched under the Canadian G7 Presidency to foster the responsible and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence systems in public services worldwide.

With the support of GAIN - a network of international experts in AI adoption in the public sector - the Challenge invites teams and individual participants from G7 and EU countries to develop practical, scalable AI solutions that address real public sector challenges and can be adopted across G7 governments.

The GovAI Grand Challenge: Innovating Public Services

The G7 GovAI Grand Challenge is an intensive two-week international competition taking place from 17 November to 1 December 2025. During this period, participants will take part in Rapid Solution Labs - virtual sessions designed to foster creativity and collaboration in developing innovative AI-based proposals.

Participants will address four specific public sector challenges, developing trustworthy and responsible AI solutions supported by expert coaching and mentorship from the GAIN network.

The Challenge officially launches on 17 November 2025, with the publication of the four challenges and submission requirements.

The initiative offers up to CAD 100,000 in total funding, with up to CAD 10,000 available to ten selected participants to support their proposals.

Final project presentations and funding announcements are expected in early 2026.

Powered by the G7 AI Network

The Canadian G7 Presidency, through the G7 Leaders’ Statement on AI for Prosperity, has committed to collaborating with member countries to advance the adoption of artificial intelligence in the public sector, promoting its secure, responsible, and trustworthy use.

To this end, the G7 AI Network (GAIN) will strengthen international cooperation to ensure that AI solutions implemented in governments deliver measurable and real benefits. Its priorities include launching the GovAI Grand Challenge, developing a roadmap to adopt and scale successful AI projects, and creating a catalogue of open-source and shareable AI solutions for G7 members.

These initiatives will help enhance the quality and efficiency of public services by introducing innovative and trustworthy AI solutions into government processes, generating tangible and measurable benefits for citizens.
